Marunouchi Station Plaza and Chiyoda Pedestrian Route No. 5 Development Project

Marunouchi Station Plaza Project / Chiyoda Pedestrian Path No. 5

A public-private partnership project to develop an underground pedestrian-only road in front of Marunouchi Station.
Marunouchi Station Plaza Project,  First Stage (2002) involved the development of an underground plaza in front of the station in front of the Marunouchi Building. The SRC structure ensured a large space with a long span of 12m between the columns and a ceiling height of 3.5m. As the face of Tokyo Station, it created a bright pedestrian space that did not give the impression of being underground.
In the second phase that followed (2007), a comfortable public pedestrian space was created in the underground space in the city center, where many functions and facilities are densely packed, by relocating the existing railway facilities and rerouting the sewerage facilities on a wide scale, while making changes to the spatial design of the first phase.

Chiyoda Pedestrian Road Route 5 Development Project

The Chiyoda Pedestrian Road No. 5 is a project following the Marunouchi Station Square Development Project, and was developed in three phases with the entire project being completed in March 2012.
By forming a network through this underground passageway connecting the subway, JR station, and the basements of adjacent buildings, we have created a spacious public "underground plaza" in the underground space of Marunouchi, which until now had simply been a station concourse.
Furthermore, rather than simply being an underground passageway for pedestrians, we have added functions to enhance convenience and comfort for a variety of users, such as meeting up and obtaining local information. We are creating facilities with the aim of "creating a lively space."
