Mitsubishi Jisho Design and Remote Sensing Technology Center,
Using satellite remote sensing technology
Cooperating in research on urban development
Trial release of "Capacity Fill Rate Map"
Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Junichi Tanisawa; hereinafter referred to as Mitsubishi Jisho Design) and the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman and CEO: Kaname Ikeda; hereinafter referred to as RESTEC) have been conducting research on urban development using satellite remote sensing technology since fiscal 2020.
We are now pleased to announce that as the first result of this research, we have released a trial version of a "volume fulfillment rate map" created using satellite remote sensing technology.

Satellite remote sensing, which uses sensors mounted on artificial satellites to remotely observe the Earth, is attracting attention for its utilization, as it can obtain a variety of highly accurate data about the Earth's surface. Mitsubishi Jisho Design and RESTEC have been exploring the possibilities of future urban development, including the utilization of public spaces, using this cutting-edge spatial information technology as a "new data-driven approach to urban development," and have been conducting research to realize this.
The "Floor Space Fulfillment Rate Map" we are introducing today is a visualization service for a wide range of existing building information that can be used as basic data for land use and urban development. We aim to expand new possibilities in land use and urban development through the further development and dissemination of this system.
The efforts of the two companies and the use of satellite remote sensing technology
Satellite remote sensing technology uses sensors mounted on artificial satellites to observe electromagnetic waves emitted and reflected by the oceans, forests, cities, clouds, and other parts of the Earth, acquiring various spatial information about the Earth's surface. In urban environments, a wide variety of data can be acquired and analyzed, including land cover, surface temperature, and altitude, greatly expanding the possibilities for use. Through collaboration between Mitsubishi Jisho Design, which is working on the "Urban Development DX Project," and RESTEC, which has cutting-edge remote sensing technology, the aim is to provide consistent consulting from development site surveys to area management, while flexibly responding to changes in the environment surrounding cities.
Development of the "Capacity Fill Rate Map"
We have released a trial version of the "Floor Space Fulfillment Ratio Map," the first result of this research. By estimating the floor space ratio of existing buildings using AW3D data *1, it is now possible to estimate and visualize the floor space fulfillment ratio (floor space ratio of existing buildings/designated floor space ratio) over a wide range.
We will continue to use satellite data to collect and visualize not only information on floor area ratios but also various other information on buildings and cities, aiming to develop a data platform that can be used for urban development. We will continue to develop a system that can be used by businesses to search and investigate development sites, as basic material for government urban planning studies, and as basic material for consultants and design offices to study designs and master plans.

Company Profile
■ Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc.
Mitsubishi Jisho Design is the oldest architectural firm in Japan, based in Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo since its founding in 1890. It has been working in an expanding range of fields, from urban planning to Architectural Design and Construction Supervision, planning and consulting, Renovation, and Construction Management, with over 130 years of accumulated technology and a network. Today, the firm has offices not only in Japan, but also overseas in Shanghai, China and Singapore, and is active throughout East Asia and Southeast Asia, working on a wide range of projects every day. In recent years, the firm has been actively involved in work related to the "Urban Development DX Project," which involves the visualization and utilization of data, as shown below, and continues to explore the possibilities of data-driven urban development and visualization simulations such as "TOKYO OASIS."

We developed a system that allows landscape gardeners to input maintenance work by inputting necessary data on trees, etc. into a map information system. Maintenance history is stored as cloud data, making it paperless, eliminating the need for personal management, and enabling objective and efficient maintenance and data management.
In July 2020, we developed and released the web service "TOKYO OASIS" together with Ecozzeria Association (General Incorporated Association for the Promotion of Environmentally Friendly Urban Planning in Otemachi-Yu), which visualizes and simulates data such as environmental information and disseminates information on comfortable spaces. https://tokyooasis.com
■ Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan
Since its establishment in 1975, the Remote Sensing Technology Center has been a core organization driving Japan's remote sensing business, and has engaged in comprehensive research and development of remote sensing technology, from receiving, processing, and analyzing satellite data, and in using it to solve social issues. In today's world, with remarkable progress in space utilization technology, we extract Earth observation information that users need in various fields, such as disaster prevention, agricultural use, and entertainment, and provide it as a solution.

AW3D Service
This service was developed and sold jointly with NTT Data Corporation. Since its launch in 2014, it has been used in a wide range of fields, from map development, disaster prevention, resource development, urban development, and infrastructure development to cutting-edge areas such as 5G mobile phone development and autonomous driving. It has been adopted in 3,500 projects in 130 countries around the world (as of October 2024). https://www.restec.or.jp/solution/aw3d.html
We provide comprehensive forest monitoring and consulting services that combine satellite data and other remote sensing data. Our services range from identifying deforested areas in the Amazon to forest health checks (NDVI analysis, tree species identification, etc.), supporting private foundations with tree planting, and estimating forest resource volumes.
