Taipei City, Taiwan "Taipei International Hotel Reconstruction Plan (Tentative name)"
Notice of commencement of main construction work
Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Junichi Tanisawa) is pleased to announce that construction work has begun on the main building of the Taipei Ambassador Hotel (Tentative name), a well-established hotel located in Taipei City, Taiwan, which the company has been planning since 2020.
The planned site, located in a prime location on Zhongshan North Road, Taipei's main street, has a land area of 4,805 m2 and a frontage of 76 m, making it an extremely rare large site in the Zhongshan North Road area. The area's streets, lined with lush trees and rich in history and international culture, have long been loved by local residents as well as tourists from both within and outside of Japan. The Taipei Ambassador Hotel, which opened here in 1964, is now 60 years old and is subject to Taiwan's Ordinance to Promote the Reconstruction of Aging Facilities, which led to the formulation of a reconstruction plan. Demolition of the existing building was completed in August of this year, and the new facility is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2028.
Under a hotel management agreement between the Ambassador Hotel Taipei Co., Ltd. (Head office: No. 63, Sec. 2, Zhongshan North Road, Taipei City, Taiwan; Chairman and CEO: Hsu Yu-Cui) and Palace Hotel Co., Ltd. (Head office: 1-1-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshihara Daisuke), the new facility will be reborn as the Ambassador Palace Hotel Taipei.
On September 20th, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on-site, attended by Chairman Xu Yu-rui of the Grand Hotel Co., Ltd., as well as those involved in the design, construction, and operation of the hotel. All parties involved will work diligently towards the completion of this project, which will usher in a new era for the Zhongshan North Road area.
About the building
This project is a complex of two buildings, a hotel and a luxury residential building, built on a base consisting of the residential common areas and hotel facilities. The planned site is located at the intersection of the old and new parts of Taipei City, a culturally rich area where many contrasting elements and characteristics intersect, such as modernity and history, internationality and locality, city and traditional alleys, and a rich natural environment.
Our company has adopted the concept of "Neo Classic" to express the high status backed by our history as an international tourist hotel, while incorporating the idea of precise Japanese craftsmanship. From the delicate design that runs from the exterior to every corner of the interior, such as facade cast, which is a modern take on the facade tile pattern of the old hotel that has been loved in the area for many years, and the layered cornices, visitors can feel the "unique hospitality" that is the essence of the hotel.
With a design that preserves tradition while pioneering a new era, we aim to create a new landmark in the Zhongshan North Road area.
