New museum "SAKA Museum" exhibiting traditional art opens in Bali

Designing a new tourist spot that harmonizes with the rich environment

Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Junichi Tanisawa) is pleased to announce that the SAKA Museum, an art museum designed by the company in Bali, Indonesia, opened on September 29, 2023.
This museum showcases Bali's rich art, religion, and culture, and was newly built within the grounds of the luxury resort AYANA Resort, which is also home to Bali's famous tourist spot, Rock Bar, BALI.
We aimed to create a new destination for tourists visiting the area, allowing them to leisurely appreciate the region's distinctive traditional art in a space that harmonizes with the area's abundant nature. We also aimed to create a meditative space where visitors' senses would be stimulated by the awe that comes from experiencing art, the unique tropical scenery, and the surprises brought about by the architecture.

Design concept: "A moon on water"

As you walk through the forest on the vast grounds, where trees unique to Bali grow, you will come across a large moon-shaped building floating on a water basin. As you follow the gentle slope into the building, you will find beautiful traditional Balinese artworks lined up in silence. We aimed to create a unique spatial experience where you can appreciate the artworks together with nature, with the surrounding forest as your backdrop.
At night, the building itself emits light, gently illuminating its surroundings like the moon floating in the water, becoming the symbol of the resort.
