Project Overview
Sunshine City is a large complex built on the site of the former Tokyo Detention House, measuring approximately 350 x 180 m and covering a total of 5.5 hectares. It can be said to be a pioneer of smart cities, with offices, shops, hotels, halls, housing, an aquarium, a bus terminal, a parking lot, a wide-area substation, a district heating and cooling and cooling plant, and cultural facilities all concentrated in one block. A Metropolitan Expressway ramp is located on the site, and an urban planning park has also been developed adjacent to it.
Sunshine City, which was called an "intelligent building" at the time and had state-of-the-art facilities, supplies energy to a wide area beyond the city block from district heating and cooling plant and wide-area substation contained within. The parking lot contributes greatly to the parking demand in the surrounding area as a city planning parking facility, and the highway ramp functions as an entrance and exit to the highway in the Ikebukuro area. Due to this convenience, it also has a bus terminal, making it a transportation hub.
As a public space, the lower floors will feature a four-story public walkway and a rooftop garden that will be open at all times, and will not only create a bustling atmosphere for the huge commercial facility that faces the public walkway, but will also function as a disaster prevention base for the area. In addition, the mid- and upper floors will feature offices, a hotel, amusement facilities such as an aquarium and theater, conference facilities, and exhibition facilities. Even now, it is a landmark of Ikebukuro, visited by approximately 30 million people a year, and by continually Renovation and updating its functions, it can be said that it continues to be a sustainable, compact smart city.
