"Ikebukuro West Park GLOBAL RING" is a redevelopment project for Ikebukuro West Park, which was developed as the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in 1990. It consists of a multifunctional "spiral ring" that expresses the energy of the spring water of "Maruike Pond" that once stood here, the "Global Ring Theater", an outdoor theater that can also host classical concerts, and the "Global Ring Cafe", a wooden structure that functions as an information dissemination center.
By installing event and disaster prevention functions in the square and ring, such as equipment boxes built into the ring pillars, equipment trenches spread throughout the square, and drainage catch basins for food stalls, the park can be used for a variety of purposes depending on the scene, from orchestras and plays to local events and disaster response. A system linking digital signage, stage sound, lighting, water scenery facilities, etc. has been constructed to create a park where people can enjoy "digital art of images, light, sound, and water" on a daily basis.
By using speakers on the stage and ring to create an arc-shaped sound field, a rich sound field is created that makes it hard to believe is outdoors, even in central Tokyo, where background noise is common. The directionality of the speakers also takes into consideration the sound environment for surrounding facilities.
