Mitsubishi Jisho Design Smart City
Implementing work style reform
-Workplace Renovation
OMY: Changing the way people move and work
Project Overview
Mitsubishi Jisho Design has been promoting work style reform since fiscal 2014. As the final step in the system reform, the company embarked on "office transformation" in fiscal 2018.
As a first step, a survey was conducted to understand the actual situation, which revealed that the key factors for increasing productivity are "concentration" and "communication," and that employees with greater mobility within the office are more productive.
Based on this quantitative data, we determined the floor layout taking into account proximity requirements, and considered restructuring the office on a floor-by-floor basis to suit each individual working style.
Main implementation items
1. Flexible seating (choice of fixed seats or free address)
② Functionality expansion
(Concentration booths, new cafe areas, highly functional meeting spaces, etc.)
3) Reducing storage volume by eliminating paper stock
After renovation
Before renovation
The company implemented a "workplace Renovation" with the aim of creating an office where workers can seamlessly and autonomously choose the space that suits their activities, such as concentration or communication, and work has been gradually carried out in the new offices since August 2019. While office transformations accompanying office relocations are common these days, this project was carried out completely as is, with a construction plan drawn up and construction carried out over nine phases until the entire process was completed.
New office operation guidelines have also been established, with the overall concept being "autonomous management by each employee." In line with this concept, a scheme has been created in which employees can proactively plan their own workplace and incorporate this into their daily work.
In addition, in response to COVID-19 countermeasures, the standard working system has been changed from the previous assumption of coming to the office to a hybrid working system that combines working from home and the office, and companies are moving to a flexible work style that is not limited to the office.
The fact that the company had already implemented workplace transformation that went beyond the office, such as establishing a teleworking system and starting to operate satellite offices before COVID-19, is also important in increasing flexibility.
A survey was conducted again in July 2020 and the results showed that the economic effect of improved productivity through work style reforms was 11.5 billion yen, and user satisfaction had improved by 13.8%, with improvements seen on both the management and employee sides.
The overall concept of "Workplace Re-Innovation" is based on the idea that "Re" means to continue creating innovation, and in 2021 we will continue to carry out activities based on the results of the survey to grasp the actual situation.
