This exhibition will introduce the changes that have taken place on the site, buildings and Nakadori street where Mitsubishi Jisho Design is currently located.

The building No. 25 (Naka 14) located here was designed by Kotaro Sakurai and completed in 1917 (Taisho 6). It was a tenement-style building with one entrance and four blocks of four floors, from the basement to the third floor. The tenant area for each block was 17.5 tsubo/floor x 4 floors = approximately 70 tsubo, and this building style with no shared entrances or corridors was popular with Japanese people, so it is believed that there were many tenants in the early Taisho period. The exterior is similar to the Japan Industrial Club (designed by Yokogawa Tamisuke), which was completed around the same time (1914), and it is speculated to be in the geometric Secession style, which was separated from the classical style.

In 1964, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Building (later renamed the Marunouchi 2-chome Building, which occupies the southern half of the current building) was built on the site of Building No. 25, designed by Washizu Masaru. In 1973, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Building was extended to the north, and the Mitsubishi Building was rebuilt at the same time. As shown in the floor plan, the building numbers start with ⑨, perhaps in anticipation of an extension nine years later.

Perhaps with an eye to ensuring the maximum floor plate space even after the extension, a column span of 6,676 mm was used for Street ①, right at the site boundary...

Nakadori street was widened from 13m to 21m, and the sidewalk was widened from 4m to 6m on each side. The full-scale development of a green network, including roadside trees and flowerbeds in the green belt to please the eyes of passersby, began with the completion of the current Marunouchi 2-chome Building in 1964, in preparation for the 18th Tokyo Olympic Games.
