Azabu-juban Parking Lot
Azabu-juban Parking Lot
In response to parking issues in the city center, the city plan was approved in 1991 as part of efforts to promote harmonious urban development towards the 21st century. Design and construction proceeded, and the facility opened at the end of June 1999.
The scale of the project is an underground parking lot with one floor above ground, three floors below ground, one entrance and a capacity of 347 cars, located under the Metropolitan Circular Route 3 and utilising the space above Subway Route 12 at the edge of Azabu-Juban 1-chome.
The plan was based on the basic principle of creating a "new underground town that is both comfortable and functional," and was designed to be urban development that takes pedestrians into consideration, rather than being car-centered.
This parking lot is the first public parking lot in Tokyo to adopt mechanical parking facilities.
