Environmental impact assessment for Nitto Flour Mill Tokyo Factory
Applicable laws and regulations: Tokyo Metropolitan Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance
Eligible business: Construction of a factory (site area of 9,000 m2 or more or building area of 3,000 m2 or more)
Completed: 1990
This project involved the relocation of a flour mill and wheat silo owned by Nitto Flour Milling Co., Ltd. in response to changes in the surrounding traffic conditions due to urbanization. The factory was originally located in Harumi, Chuo Ward, Tokyo, but was relocated to Oi Wharf in Ota Ward.
The environmental assessment was carried out on the noise and vibrations caused by the factory's operations, and on the impact on the surrounding landscape. As an environmental conservation measure, the exhaust vent for the fumigation of wheat silos (killing and disinfecting grains with gas) was placed 50 meters above ground level to reduce the burden on the environment.
