Harumi 2-chome District Urban Renewal Project Seawall Construction
This project was a private-sector initiative to implement seawall construction, which had previously been carried out by the public sector, as a "private urban regeneration project."
Ordinary seawalls are primarily designed to fulfill their disaster prevention function, and rarely do they consider the aesthetic aspect. Therefore, this project focused on creating a space that harmonizes with the surrounding area, and the seawall was developed to have cultural and recreational functions as well, rather than being limited to its disaster prevention function as a simple seawall.
For the closer view, a waterfront space that will be a place of relaxation for users has been created with a hydrophilic theme, using warm paving materials, furniture that creates a space for gathering, greening the bank slope, and lighting up at night. For the distant view, the structure was formed with an emphasis on continuity and unity with the surrounding bank, taking into consideration the view from the sea and the Toyosu area on the opposite bank, creating a waterfront space that can be said to be a symbol of the Harumi area in the future.
