Sapporo North Building

A complex of offices and stores conveniently located in front of the plaza at the north exit of Sapporo Station.
The exterior design is vertically coordinated, different from the surrounding horizontal rows of windows and individual windows, to give the building a spacious image as a symbol of the station.
Hokkaido is characterized by a long season in which air conditioning is not required. We designed the environment to take advantage of this comfortable intermediate climate, and installed an ecorator and fan system around the windows to introduce outside air. In summer, the fan blows up the air inside, creating an air barrier around the windows and reducing heat penetration through the windows as a simple airflow. In winter, it also stirs up the cold air that accumulates around the feet in the early morning, providing a homogenous air environment.
