the ARGYLE aoyama

This project is a rebuild of Aoyama Bell Commons (completed in 1976, designed by Kurokawa Kisho), known as the heart of the Aoyama area in Minato Ward. It is a complex that adds a hotel as a new element to its previous functions. As a "fashion town," the building is based on the checkered pattern used in fabrics, and features plazas and plantings that echo the surrounding green spaces such as Jingu Gaien. The aim was to create a building that gives a sense of the town by arranging porous exterior spaces throughout, such as a rooftop bar, small courtyard gardens on the upper floors, and an open-air bamboo garden in the center of the building with a corridor that opens onto it.
