"Mobility Concepts from a Design Firm" acquires design rights for multiple models

Evaluating the originality of design proposals/Establishing a world view for a series of systems

Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. (Head office: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Junichi Tanisawa) has been advocating the concept of a new-age mobility system, the "Seamless Mobility System" (hereinafter "SMS"), which will be a "tool to connect cities, architecture, and people" and will enable seamless movement of people both inside and outside buildings since 2023. We are pleased to announce that we obtained design rights in Japan for the two types of mobility proposed here between July and September 2024.

  • A term used primarily in the logistics and transportation industries to refer to "the final leg of a goods or service's journey to a customer or destination."

Design patent acquired ①: "Trunkbot" and its series of common platforms

The smallest mobility vehicle in the SMS series is the Trunkbot. It can store items inside and travels with the user inside buildings and on roads. It is a mobility vehicle that supports exercise and movement on one's own feet, and is a companion to the elderly and those who have difficulty traveling for long distances. This is one of the ideas behind the SMS concept of making movement in urban spaces more inclusive.
By obtaining a design patent for the platform (lower frame and running system) used in the "Trunkbot," it has been recognized as a unique proposal even when developed into multiple variations.

Platform variations: "Trunkbot Wheelchair" and "Trunkbot Logistics"

Design patent acquired ②: Modular mobility "Passenger VTOL"

"Passenger VTOL" is a fully autonomous electric mobility system consisting of three units: propeller, cabin, and running gear, proposing an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) that extends the ideas of "SMS" into the skies above cities and enables greater freedom in space utilization.
The uniqueness of the design was recognized, and this mobility vehicle was granted a European design right (European Community Design DM/235029) in February 2024, and has now also been granted a design right in Japan.
