R&D WORKS Vol. 15

SMAHOLODEO

A simple MR object using a smartphone.

R&D WORKS TOP

Mixed Reality (MR), which combines the real world with the virtual world, will expand its possibilities in Architectural Design. It will make it possible to make a virtual building appear before your eyes, visualize invisible elements such as heat and air, and even handle them interactively. While MR is a new information technology, it is also attracting attention as an excellent communication technology. It is a sensory exchange that shares images three-dimensionally, intuitively, and two-way. Therefore, we have begun an attempt to develop a simple device that will make MR more accessible. The first step is an entertainment object that uses a smartphone.

Launching a flat image as a desk-top object

SMAHOLODEO is a desktop object that makes the information displayed on your smartphone appear to float in mid-air. Your favorite figures, CG, and photos will stand up in 3D on your desktop and start performing, talking, and playing. It is a desktop object that provides entertainment and sometimes conveys a message.

The product itself is made of paper and can be easily assembled by the user by folding it. It is packaged flat, making it easy to carry and distribute. The cover of the product can be freely printed with an image that matches the video content. By coordinating the video file and the printing of the product, the possibilities for presentations and novelty goods that convey a certain message are expanded.
