Year Book 2023Our ttsNewAtemp004Mitsubishi Jisho Design’s Circular Ecosystem Connecting Cities and ForestsThe Mitsubishi Estate Group, of which we are a member, has set a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 (i.e., the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere equals the amount removed from the atmosphere) and aims to utilize renewable energy, reduce CO2 emissions, and achieve carbon fixation in cities through the appropriate use of wood in buildings. These endeavors will result in afforestation, forest management, and the stable creation of demand for timber, which the group will leverage to create an effective circular ecosystem between cities and forests and, working with the clients and other stakeholders, realize a sustainable society.As a central effort toward a sustainable environment, MEC Industry Co., Ltd. was established to conduct business promoting the use of Japanese timber in buildings’ structures and other parts, and in May 2022, the company’s wood processing plant began its operation in Yusui Town, Kagoshima Prefecture. Using locally-sourced timber, the company handles the entire process of lumbering, processing, manufacturing, assembling, and selling wooden materials such as 2x4 lumber and CLT.三菱地所設計が属する三菱地所グループは、2050年までに「ネットゼロ」（温室効果ガスの大気中への排出量と除去量が同量＝「差し引きゼロ」の状態）の達成を目標に掲げ、再生可能エネルギーの活用やCO2排出量の削減とともに、建築物の適切な木造・木質化による都市でのCO2固定を目指しています。そこで生まれる植林・森林管理・木材需要の安定創出で都市と森の適切な循環システムをつくり出し、クライアントをはじめとする関係者とともに、持続可能な社会の実現に取り組んでまいります。こうした「環境」への取り組みの中核として、国産木材を活用した木造・木質化事業を行うMEC Industry株式会社が設立され、2022年5月、鹿児島県湧水町で木材加工工場が稼働しました。地元木材を使用し、2×4材やCLT（直交集成板）を中心とした木質建材などの製材・加工・製造・組み立て・販売までを一気通貫で行っています。［ 新時代に向けた取り組みの強化］Our New Attempts三菱地所設計がつくる都市と森の循環システム
